SSDP Welcomes Its New Gap-Year Staff!
South Shore Dermatology Physicians is proud to welcome its newest gap-year team members. These accomplished pre-med college graduates bring enthusiasm, energy, and skills to their work as dermatologist assistants. While at SSDP, they will gain valuable experience that will help them get accepted to medical school and become successful physicians. They join three senior gap-year team members.
Our gap-year staff bring patients into rooms, obtain relevant medical histories, scribe during visits, and assist our dermatologists with biopsies and procedures, among other tasks they perform as part of the SSDP clinical team. Our gap-year employees typically spend one to three years working with us before entering medical school.

Senior gap-year Janelly Polanco shares, “I have only been with SSDP for nine months and yet this has been the most fulfilling, reassuring, and enriching clinical experiences I have had. All of the physicians here truly believe in every gap year’s ability to succeed in this field and, working with Dr. Eminger, I am reminded of that daily. It’s been an honor to learn from and grow with Dr. Eminger, and I can’t wait to see the impact I’ll make in medicine!”
Dr. Daniel Loo says, "This is our 10th anniversary of hiring gap-year students to partner with us providing the highest quality care to our patients. Their ability to document in electronic health records, assist in procedures, call patients with results, and submit prior authorizations has been invaluable. It has also been rewarding for us to mentor them, and to help them achieve their dreams for a career in medicine."
