SSDP Welcomes Its New Gap-Year Staff!
South Shore Dermatology Physicians is proud to welcome its newest gap-year employees. These accomplished pre-med college graduates bring enthusiasm, energy, and skills to their work as dermatologist assistants. While at SSDP, they will gain valuable experience that will help them get accepted to medical school and become successful physicians.
Dr. Daniel Loo says, “We are thrilled to report that all of our new gap-year students have arrived and are doing a fantastic job navigating our EMR system and assisting us in providing top-notch quality care. We have six new gap-year students who have come from as far as Virginia and California to work with us as they apply to medical school. When you come in for your visit, please welcome them.”
Our gap-year staff will be bringing patients into rooms, obtaining relevant medical histories, scribing during visits, and assisting our dermatologists with biopsies and procedures, among the various other tasks they will perform as part of the SSDP clinical team. Our gap-year employees typically spend one to three years working with us before entering medical school.

Adam Hopson, University of Rochester ‘22
Adam applied to medical schools and is waiting to hear back now. He shared, “Working with Dr. Shroff-Mehta, Dr. Chang, and Dr. Gilbert, I have gained invaluable medical experiences in Dermatology and Plastic Surgery that have helped me to mature and appreciate medicine’s curative properties. I have learned how to become a medical professional, have learned how to compassionately communicate with patients about their mental and physical health, and how to serve as patients’ advocate when completing their prior authorizations for prescription insurance coverage. I am excited to pursue medicine with the breadth of experience I have gained at SSDP.”

Gabi is applying to medical school soon. She said, “Everyone at SSDP is so warm and welcoming, and it truly is a team-oriented environment. Each physician is so passionate about teaching us and they are invested in our success. I have learned so much and I am so grateful for the experience.”
