Introducing Dermatopathology Services at SSDP

While our dermatologists are directly caring for patients, dermatopathologists play a critical role in reading tissue specimens to aid in diagnosis and treatment. At SSDP, we are fortunate to have talented dermatopathologists on our team to evaluate and diagnose the biopsies performed by SSDP physicians.

What is dermatopathology?

Dermatopathology is a branch of pathology dealing with the analysis and diagnosis of the skin. Dermatopathologists may start in either dermatology or pathology before their training. The histopathology assessment of skin, hair, nails, and mucous membrane samples requires subspecialty training.

Our dermatopathology team brings decades of experience to our practice. The collaborative impact of discussing complex, nuanced cases with our dermatopathologists provides a level of information that optimizes the accuracy of diagnosis — and your dermatologic care.

“Making the right diagnosis and treatment plan for our patients is all about the clinicopathological correlation. Our team includes dermatopathologists whose primary focus is the skin, who know each one of our dermatologists’ style of practice, and who respond quickly to in-depth questions, allowing our board-certified dermatologists to provide the answers and plans that are best suited for each of our patients.” — Dr. Amy Chang
